广西阳朔-柳州：

Time to bid Yangshuo farewell, a tourist-centric town sprawling on Lijiang river where foreign faces seen everywhere during my first visit decades ago are gone but now Chinese nationals bustle around and imaginably traffic is held up everywhere out in the open except in hotel rooms particularly during weeklong national holidays.

该跟阳朔再见了。数十年前第一次来阳朔这个漓江上的旅游热点小镇，那时到处都是外国游客。现在老外几乎看不到，却挤满了国人，都能想到尤其是五一十一小长假期间，除了酒店房间里不会堵，只要出门就会堵。

The passing references to Liuzhou contained in teacher Li’s lecture decades ago kind of still stick in my mind, and the imagination about this middle school geography class city 180km southwest of Yannshuo is what we make a beeline for today. The sun blazes down all the way, and it still does as we are entering Guangxi’s industrial powerhouse and hub of transportation. Our room on the 71st floor of Liuzhou Yunding Hotel offers a commanding view of the hectic urban life below and Liujiang slithering its way through the city, a river which rises in Dusha county of Guizhou and runs for 770km. Yunduo’er as always wriggles into a squat cabinet for the solitude in there, which at least shows she’s fnot claustrophobic. A glass section of the floor in the restaurant on the 73rd floor affords spine-tingling vistas all the way down the skyscraper.

中学地理课上李老师曾讲到柳州，几十年过去，那情景至今还印象深刻。于是西南行180公里直奔这个中学地理课情节的城市，广西最大的工业中心和交通枢纽。日烈一路，一直烈到柳州。柳州云顶酒店71层房间俯瞰城市的繁华和发源于贵州独山县、全长770公里、蜿蜒穿城而过的柳江。云朵儿又一次想方设法爬进一个矮柜享受清净，看来云朵儿没有幽闭恐惧症。73层餐厅有一小块儿玻璃地板，视觉直通摩天楼楼底，让人有些心惊胆战。

The instant we step into a food joint beside the hotel, pungent odors of Luoshifen’er waft into nostrils. It was in Liuzhou that Luoshifen’er was first cooked and tasted and spread to all parts of the country, and the city is the right place for an authentic taste of the dish which smells bad but pleases taste buds with the first mouthful.

走进酒店旁一家小吃店，螺狮粉儿的臭味儿直冲鼻霄。螺狮粉儿诞生于柳州，传向全国。闻起来臭、吃起来香，这种纯正体验就在柳州。

It’s worth the while taking in the night views of the lit up city onboard the boat Liujiang Yinxiang carrying 360 passengers on Liujiang river.

晚上柳江沿岸灯火辉煌，乘360名游客的柳州印象游船在江上行，夜景很美。

Night is wearing on. Will it be happier for Yunduo’er to be slumbering on air on the 71st floor than walking on air?
